Collagen Induction Therapy, also known as CIT or Medical Microneedling, is the process of creating tiny microchannels in the skin, triggering the skin’s natural healing response and releasing growth factors which, in turn, produces more collagen and elastin. This process addresses a variety of skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, scarring, skin laxity (sagging) and a dull complexion.  

The best candidates for Microneedling are those looking to truly heal the skin from the inside out. Our All-Inclusive Collagen Induction Therapy Treatment includes treatment of the decollate area as well as the addition of DF Technology (Ultrasound + Galvanic Current) to drive our medical grade products down the cellular level, substantially increasing their efficacy. This service is the most advanced offering at Sunflower MediSpa, including quite literally all that we have to offer on our Skincare Service Menu. 

What to expect

The service will begin with a simple facial to cleanse and prepare the skin for treatment. A numbing agent is then applied to prevent discomfort and, once effective, the microneedling treatment will take place. We use a 1.5mm needle length, as research indicates this is the most effective length for the types of skin conditions we are treating. Shorter needles are less effective and longer needles are unnecessary unless treating significant scars, typically performed by a plastic surgeon.

After microneedling, we then briefly apply a low grade peel to sanitize the skin and prepare it for product application. High levels of peptides are then applied to the freshly needled skin, followed by the use of DF Technology. The combination of the existing channels in the skin from needling and the technology used, allows the products to reach the cellular level of the skin, significantly increasing the efficacy and maximizing the results of this already highly impactful treatment. Finally, we complete the service with a calming and pH balancing mask, drawing out the heat within the skin and much of the redness. We have found this mask to be very effective in reducing downtime and post-needling discomfort.

After your microneedling treatment, you will still see some redness, and may feel as though you have a sunburn. It is critical that you follow post-needling at-home care for 3-5 days post treatment, though you will be able to wear makeup as soon as the day following treatment.

Due to the method we use and the calming mask applied post-needling, we are able to perform this procedure as often as weekly for those looking to condense a series of treatments into a shorter time period; however, monthly treatments are recommended at minimum for 3, 6 or 12 months dependent upon specific skin concerns being treated and the severity.

A Note about our technique:

There are many different Microneedling devices on the market, all claiming to be the best. At Sunflower MediSpa, we use a roller for our Microneedling as opposed to one of the various “pens” currently available. We are heavily focused on research when adding services to our menu and found the roller to be the safest method, while allowing us more control over the speed and strength at which the needles are inserted into the skin. There is literature found online arguing against rollers; however, we found these claims to be unwarranted and heavily driven by the manufacturers of the pen-like devices. The same arguments against rollers can be made against pens as well. When it comes down to it, the risk lies with the practitioner providing the service moreso than the device – and safety is always at the forefront at Sunflower MediSpa.

Much of our research comes directly from Dr. Des Fernandez, a world renowned plastic surgeon often referred to as the Pioneer of Microneedling as we know it today. Dr, Des Fernandez also happens to be the founder and creator of our exclusive product line, Environ Skincare. His research in skin health and the least invasive methods of creating the most impactful results has played a critical role in the work we do here at Sunflower MediSpa.

We will review these products with you at the time of your visit, as it is highly customized based on your unique skincare needs.
