PRF Treatments

Platelet-Rich-Fibrin

Benefits of PRF:

Let’s start with the best part – what PRF can actually do!

  • Reduce visible signs of aging including:
    • Fine lines and wrinkles
    • Sagging skin
    • Undereye circles
    • Lip lines and lost lip volume
    • Laugh Lines
    • Marionette Lines
    • Sunken cheeks
    • Crow’s Feet
    • Forehead lines
  • Brighten skin complexion
  • Smooth rough skin texture
  • Balance the skin’s moisture levels
  • Treat acne scars
  • Reduce dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma
  • Encourage cellular turnover and accelerate healing
  • Stimulate hair growth on the scalp or eyebrows
  • Stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid

The best part about PRF is that it is completely natural, and so are the results! You can’t “overfill” as you could with traditional fillers. Your body will produce its own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and the result will be a more youthful appearance, but you will still look like YOU.

What is PRF?

PRF (Platelet-Rich-Fibrin) injections are created using your own blood. Once drawn, your blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate out the key ingredients of the injections – a high concentration of white blood cells, fibrin and stem cells (growth factors).

When injected, the skin’s natural healing response is stimulated, triggering the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. In turn, we see restored volume, tightening of the skin, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, balanced moisture levels, and a reduction in under eye circles.

Regarding the treatment of hair loss, injections into the scalp or eyebrows stimulate the hair follicles, improve blood supply, and rejuvenates hair health. PRF Treatment can thicken existing hair, encourage new hair growth, and improve the strength and thickness of new hair shafts.

PRF Treatment:

  • 60-minute session
  • 3-6 Treatments
  • 4–8-week intervals depending on treatment area
  • No downtime – mild redness and slight swelling 12-24 hours and the potential for minimal bruising around the treatment site.
  • Long lasting results (typically recommended annually)

Results may begin to show in as little as two weeks; however, some of the longer-term results may take 3-6 months to appear as your body begins to produce more of its own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

contraindications and safety

Patients with blood clotting disorders should not receive PRF Injections

PRF Injections are completely safe and natural. Because the treatment uses your own blood, disease transmission is not a factor. Additionally, the equipment we have selected at Sunflower MediSpa is “closed system”, meaning it is fully enclosed during the spinning process, eliminating the possibility of contamination. Our supply kits are single use only.

the difference between PRF and PRP

PRF is essentially the next generation of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) offering higher levels of safety as well as more impactful and longer lasting results.

PRP and PRF utilize the same general process. Your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate out the growth factors, which are then injected into the treatment areas; however, there are a few key differences.

Imagine these growth factors were a skincare product. If you apply a great product it and leave it remaining on your skin for only a few hours, it won’t do nearly as much as it would if you applied it overnight for multiple days in a row. In this way, PRF is more aligned with the latter.

PRF is spun in the centrifuge at a slower speed than PRP, allowing for more healing factors to remain in the platelet layer collected for treatment. PRP contains 2-5x the normal concentration of platelets typically found within the body whereas PRF contains approximately 10x the platelet concentration found within the body.

PRF requires no anticoagulant, rendering it even more natural and safe. Without the anticoagulant, the natural fibrinogen within our blood is converted to fibrin. This creates a fibrin matrix that activates the platelets and allows for a slow release of growth factors, significantly increasing the efficacy of the treatment as well as the duration of the results.

the difference between traditional dermal fillers and PRF

Traditional Dermal Fillers are used to restore lost volume in the skin, typically by injecting hyaluronic acid into the treatment area. By adding volume, the skin can appear tighter and areas of fine lines and wrinkles are essentially “filled in”. They do not treat the underlying concern, but rather provide a more instant result that typically lasts 6-12 months. When visiting a skilled injector, these results can look very natural; however, it is possible to “overfill”, producing a less natural appearance. That said, fillers are necessary if you wish to increase volume beyond that which you had at a younger age.

PRF injections utilize your body’s own natural processes, simply kicking them into gear. As we age we produce less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid – PRF feeds the skin with the growth factors it needs to produce more of all three on its own.

While traditional fillers often consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in the body, they are technically a synthetic version HA manufactured to act like the body’s own HA. PRF, on the other hand, is completely natural.

Dermal fillers provide an instant result. Results from PRF take time to present, as your body needs time to produce the collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Dermal fillers only require one treatment. PRF Injections often require a series of treatments to provide optimal results.

For those looking to get both the instant and long-term results, you can receive a combination of PRF Injections and dermal fillers, though you may find that once the PRF results have fully presented, dermal fillers are no longer needed.

What else pairs nicely with PRF?

To maximize results, we recommend combining skincare treatments and PRF.

Our Medical Grade Skincare line, Environ Skincare, offers substantial benefits in anti-aging, skin texture and tone, pigmentation treatment, and balancing the skin’s moisture levels.

Additionally, we offer multiple facial treatments that also trigger the skin’s natural healing response. By completing a series of one of these skincare treatments alongside your PRF Injections, you can maximize your results:
